This programme combines a 20 hours a week intensive Spanish course with 3 or 4 hours of volunteer work with children, the elderly or internal refugees each afternoon.
The organizations we work with include: Fundación Social por Bogotá, Fundación Casa Linda Hogar, Hogar Abuelitos Sol y Luna, Hogar Amor y Vida, and Fundación de Atención Al Migrante.
Activities may include:
With children and adolescents:
- Teaching Basic English
- Playing table games
- Leading recreational activities
With internal refugees:
- Teaching Basic English
- Teaching hand crafts
- Going to the park, etc
- Leading recreational activities
With the elderly:
- Accompanying and assisting residents with daily activities
- Playing table games
- Going to the park, etc
- Reading to the residents
Course summary
- Minimum level: Intermediate
- Minimum stay: 4 weeks
- Price per week: $US 220
Please note that the Hogar Abuelitos Sol y Luna does not have reading materials or games available and volunteers are therefore asked to bring their own. Please also note that IH Bogotá does not provide transportation, but is happy to advise students on how best to arrive at their destinations.
