CELTA courses at IH Bogotá, Colombia

About the CELTA course

I decided to take the CELTA course after taking a TEFL course a couple of years back. I thought it would be more or less the same thing but no, there are so many more things you see in CELTA.

The CELTA course is the original "TEFL" course and provides initial training leading to a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). It is intended for those without previous experience who wish to enter the profession and for teachers with no previous training in this field.

Success in the Certificate has enabled many candidates to obtain their first teaching position: the course is highly regarded by employers as providing sound initial training and a strong basis from which to develop as a teacher of English.

Teaching practice -- a vital part of the course

Teaching practice is an integral part of the course -- and is something that distinguishes this course from many "TEFL" courses, which often don't include a practical, face-to-face teaching component.

At IH Bogotá, we organise the teaching practice in small groups of 5-6 trainees, with volunteer students at two or three different levels. After each teaching practice session an evaluation of the session is led by a course tutor.

Trainees are expected to liase within their groups outside course hours in order to plan teaching practice classes, according to guidelines provided by course tutors.

The starting point of a career

Success in the Certificate has enabled many candidates to obtain their first teaching position: the course is highly regarded by employers as providing sound initial training and a strong basis from which to develop as a teacher of English.

At IH Bogotá we provide specialist input and advice on job opportunities in Bogotá and elsewhere in Colombia.

Colombia is a growing EFL market and many successful candidates have found their first teaching post at IH Bogotá, or further afield.

Cambridge English

There are over 300 Cambridge English authorised exam centres in 70 countries but IH Bogotá is one of only two in Colombia.

More about CELTA from Cambridge English

I learnt so much on the CELTA course, from classroom management to a deeper knowledge of the English language. The tutors at IH were great and really helpful. Highly recommended.
Henry, UK

The CELTA course at IH Bogotá was informative, fun and professional. I made great friends and left confident in my teaching abilities. The tutors were kind, helpful and always available.
Sam, USA

The course was challenging, but very rewarding. We had talented, helpful and inspiring tutors. I laughed and cried, but in the end I learned more than I thought I would.
Michelle, Venezuela

Bogotá is a beautiful city and has lots of action, lots of beautiful places to see I love it here and it was such a great experience doing CELTA with IH Bogotá.

The students were great, really motivated. Teaching was really new for me, I hadn't taught a lot before but I learnt a lot of great techniques. It was really fun!

It taught me the methodology I needed to become an effective teacher and the tools to make teaching English not just productive but enjoyable for my students.
